Are Tomatoes the Best Kept Beauty Secret?

Most people have an abundance of tomatoes lying around in their kitchen and many Americans are forced to toss the fruit (it is technically a fruit by the way) in the garbage after it goes bad in their fridge but as it turns out your throwing away much more than just a healthy snack.

If you’ve been buying into those late night ads that promote expensive skin creams, destroying an entire pay check with one visit to the spa for some crazy over priced facial, or have been to the dermatologist for acne solutions so often that the receptionist knows you well enough to invite you over for dinner you really need to read this.

Stop wasting your money and time on crazy skin care products when tomatoes contain all the helpful ingredients that are in the very same creams you’re paying way too much for.

Whether you need to shrink your pores, prevent sun burns at the beach, or just find a great way to clean your skin the tomato is the answer to all your skin care needs.

No More Shiny Face: So we established that a tomato is a fruit, but it’s also an astringent as well which means much more to you if you’re trying to combat oily skin. All you have to do is cut a fresh tomato and strain it. Add some cucumber juice to the tomato juice and apply the mix to your face with a cotton ball. Not only will this fix some of that annoying shine that comes with an oily face, but it’s also key in getting rid of acne for good.

An All Natural Cleanser: If you have combination skin – skin that is both oily and dry – go ahead and grab a tomato out of the fridge because it’s the most affordable and effective face cleanser you’ll find. While the tomato is an astringent that helps combat oily skin, avocados are the perfect ingredient to help dry skin. By mashing tomatoes and avacados together, you can make a soothing mask that will clean your skin and enrich it with tons of vitamin A, C, and E. Wipe the mask away after half an hour and rinse your face with warm water to prevent yourself from smelling like a delicious BLT.

A Zit’s Worse Nightmare: Because of their taste, we don’t often recognize tomatoes as having any sort of acidity but indeed they do. The acidity of tomatoes in addition to the lovely A, C and K vitamins that are so plentiful in the fruit makes it the perfect secret weapon in the war against acne. For mild acne the solution is as simple as cutting a tomato in half and applying the inside on your face. If your acne pushed well past the mild stage, mash the tomato and pack the pulp on your face. Let it sit for a good hour or so before rinsing it off. Use a gentle moisturizer after rinsing your face and in no time your pimples and bumps will vanish.

Honey I Shrunk My Pores: Nothing is worse than having huge pores trapping all sorts of dirt, oil, grime and germs that could lead to infections and blemishes. Luckily, there is a simple concoction that will shrink your pores after just 15 minutes. All it takes is a tablespoon of fresh tomato juice combined with two or four drops of lemon juice. Use a cotton ball to massage the liquid into your face in circular motions before finally rinsing with cold water… and POOF! Smaller pores.

Perfect for the Beach: We’re all ready to head to the beach in our itty bitty teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikinis, but we aren’t so ready to deal with agonizing sun burn. Before you decide to hide indoors all spring and summer to avoid getting that terrible rash again, consider fighting back with tomatoes. First things first, eat more tomatoes. The healthy fruit is like a super sun block that works from inside your body. Of course some additional sun block is still a good thing to have. If you’ve already fallen victim to sun burn, crush half a tomato and mix it with PLAIN yogurt. The last thing you need to do is add sugary, sticky artificially flavored yogurt to a sensitive burn. Apply the home made cream to the burned areas or areas that are susceptible to burns such as your neck and arms. Leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes before washing it off. The special cream will help cool your skin while adding protein that will make your skin baby smooth.

Bye to Shine, Hello to GLOW: Nobody wants to be shiny and oily looking, but who doesn’t want to have a natural glow that commands attention? Well the best way to get that beaming glow is through confidence and a bright smile but if that’s too much to ask turn to tomatoes. Tomatoes will give your skin a beautiful glow in no time. Mix a tad of honey into the tomato juice until it’s nice and thick. Let the paste sit on your face for 15 minutes before gently washing it off. Your skin will be glowing and soft just like that… but seriously that confidence thing helps too.
