Chan-Wook Park's 'Stoker' Releases Two Images

While fans of Chan-Wook Park still have a long wait ahead of them until the release of Stoker, the film’s promotional team has released two new pictures from the upcoming family-oriented thriller.

The first photo showcases a grieving Nicole Kidman alongside Mia Wasikowska. The latter looks intensely confused while the former seems to be contemplating something bordering on insanity. There’s also a man sporting some Wayfarers in the background, but he’s probably not at all important.

The second photo showcases Chan-Wook Park involved in directing Wasikowska. A young man in glasses – who I’m assuming is the interpreter – seems a bit amused as he translates directions. Park’s countenance is equally amused and free of any sort of worry or frustration.

This is quite surprising, especially when one considers that Stoker will be Park’s first film made entirely in English. Of course, Park is much more famous for his work in South Korea, being responsible for the notorious “Vengeance Trilogy” made up of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy (which is in the works for an American remake by Spike Lee), and Lady Vengeance (which is in the works for an American remake starring Charlize Theron.) among others. Needless to say, with fans familiar with Park’s work throughout the globe, Stoker is a heavily anticipated project. Here’s the official synopsis:

After India’s father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie comes to live with her and her mother, Evelyn. Soon after his arrival, India suspects that this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives but becomes increasingly infatuated with him.

The two pictures, along with the trailer, provide those awaiting Stoker with a bit of an appetizer. Along with Wasikowska and Kidman, the likes of Matthew Goode and Jacki Weaver co-star. Stoker will first hit screens at the Sundance Film Festival before being released nationwide on March 1, 2013.
