‘Steel Magnolias’ Not Only Lifetime Movie This Weekend, Also Watch ‘Abducted: The Carlina White Story’

It’s a black movie weekend on the Lifetime channel, with 2 original feature films both starring all-black casts, making their world premieres, headlining the network’s Saturday and Sunday primetime schedule.

Thanks to recent news, like the lawsuit filed against the producers of the film, we’ve already harped all week about the Steel Magnolias remake (which is set to air on Sunday, October 7, at 9/8c), so much that we’ve neglected to remind you of the other film that’s also making its debut this week – Abducted: The Carlina White Story – which will air the day prior to Steel Magnolias, tomorrow, Saturday, October 6, at 8/7c.

Recapping that story…

Abducted: The Carlina White Story stars Aunjanue Ellis, Keke Palmer, Roger Cross and Sherri Shepherd in the true story of Carlina White (played by Palmer), who, after being abducted as an infant from a New York hospital, solved her own kidnapping and reunited with her biological parents 23 years later.

Vondie Curtis Hall directed the movie.

The case is said to be the first known infant abduction from a New York hospital.

Here’s a little more info about the ripped-from-the-headlines story:

In August of 1987, new parents Joy White (Shepherd) and Carl Tyson (Roger Cross, 24) took their 19-day old daughter Carlina to Harlem Hospital in New York with a high fever. Ann Pettway (Ellis), who had suffered a series of miscarriages and was desperate for a child of her own, posed as a hospital nurse and befriended Carlina’s parents, even offering to watch over their daughter. But shortly after Carlina was admitted, Pettway removed the child’s IV line, placed her in an over-sized handbag, and walked out of the hospital…
