Shaunie O'Neal Seals 'Basketball Wives' Movie Amid Growing Boycott

Shaunie O’Neal has big plans in her basket! The VH1 Basketball Wives producer is set to work with Tracey Edmonds for a film loosely based on her life. Basketball Wives began with a similar concept, hence the comparisons.

According to Variety, Tracey and Shaunie pitched the idea and Fox Searchlight took the bait. Edmonds who worked on ‘Jumping the Broom’ will bring on the writer of said film Elizabeth Hunter to write the script of the currently untitled film.

Here’s the storyline, “a young woman who follows her boyfriend to Miami after he gets drafted into the NBA. Thrust into the world of professional sports, she meets the other players’ wives and learns from their trials and tribulations.”

Tracey is likely aware of the current boycott and backlash of BBW but promises the film will give the audience something to think about with a well developed script.

“The beauty of a feature film is that we’ll have the ability to dig much deeper into the stories and characters that come from this very colorful world and create a very juicy, action-packed narrative.” We’re hoping action pack doesn’t mean stomping across a dinner table.

Notwithstanding the drama of the Basketball Wives show and this film could potentially work if it’s clean, well written, funny with a solid cast.
