Fashion Star: Jessica Simpson Insulted By Contestant's Sexist Remark

Jessica Simpson got an ear full along with co-host Nicole Richie when a male contestant hurled a sexist remark at the two paneled mentors for NBC’s ‘Fashion Star’ during its premiere Tuesday night.

As mentors to the show, the ladies share critiquing duties with John Varvatos, giving blatant but helpful counsel to the unknown fashion newcomers.

The guidance fell flat for one competitor.

“It’s very hard to understand the girls giving advice about men’s fashion,” Menswear designer Nicholas Bowes said.

The off-cusp remark was made after Nicole, 30, and Simpson, 31, gave low marks to the designer’s line of leather jackets, denim shorts, and cowboy boots.

“I’m a little bit offended. A lot a bit, actually. To talk down to a woman in this business? We’re running the world right now,” The billionaire mogul said. “I really kind of want to hit you across the face right now.”

Though Richie tried to reassure the Australian designer they were only there to ‘help him’, her stony face told a different story.

Simpson finished her gripe with a tweet to her followers during the airing of the show: “I know what a buyer wants @nicholasbowes and I really hope you take everyone’s advice to heart. #FashionStar”

With two strikes against him, overall bad choice in clothes and bad manners, Bowes was sent packing as he bottomed out at the end of the show.

“‘I wish it was just confidence and not arrogance,” Simpson added to an already obvious list of why the designer was let go.

However, six other contestants received offers from featured stores—H&M, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Macy’s—where the designer’s pieces can be offered the following day after the show has aired. This gist is a new spin setting it apart from other fashion acquainted bits.
